“I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live”.
– John 11:25-26

The Mass of Christian Burial

On behalf of St. Cecilia Parish, we extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of your loved one. During this difficult time, our parish is here to support you in prayer and in the planning of the funeral liturgy.

The Mass of Christian Burial is a sacred lieragy in which the Church gathers to commend the soul of the deceased to the mercy and love of God, while offering prayerful support and comfort to family and friends who grieve. In this moment of loss, we are reminded of our hope in the Resurrection and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. The Funeral rites of the Church provide prayers for the faithful departed, consolation for the bereaved, and a reverent farewell rooted in faith.

Planning a Funeral at St. Cecilia

Funeral arrangements should begin in collaboration with a licensed funeral home. If you need assistance connecting with a funeral home or beginning the planning process, our recommended local funeral home is Chambers & Grubbs.

After you have contacted the funeral home and met with them, they will reach out to us. We will then contact you to help you choose the funeral liturgy, including readings, music, and other elements that reflect both the Church’s traditions and your loved one’s life.

If you are interested in purchasing a plot in our cemetery on the church grounds, please visit our Resources tab for more information.

Funeral Liturgy Preparation

First and foremost, the funeral liturgy is a sacred act of worship and a loving entrustment of your loved one to God. In faith and humility, we come before Him, asking for mercy, peace, and the promise of eternal life.

Families are warmly invited to take part in selecting the readings and prayers for the Funeral Mass or service. These options allow you to choose Scripture passages that reflect faith, hope, and the comfort of God’s abiding love.

Together, these selections help shape a liturgy that honors your loved one while proclaiming our Christian hope in the Resurrection and the life of the world to come.

Please select one of the options for the First Reading. Readings may be chosen from the Old Testament, or from the New Testament during the Easter season.

Please choose one reading from each of the following options.

Music for the Funeral Liturgy

Sacred music is an important part of the funeral liturgy. Our Director of Sacred Music will assist you in selecting appropriate hymns and musical settings that honor your loved one and respect the sacred nature of the Mass.
