Holy Orders
“Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.”
— Hebrews 5:1
The Sacrament of Holy Orders is a sacred calling through which a man is ordained to serve Jesus Christ and His Church in a unique and special way. Through this Sacrament, Christ continues His mission in the world by appointing men to act in His name as deacons, priests, and bishops.
Holy Orders is one of the Sacraments of Service, given not for personal benefit, but for the good of the entire Church. Those who receive Holy Orders are configured to Christ in a particular way and are entrusted with the duties of preaching the Gospel, celebrating the Sacraments, and shepherding God’s people. In this way, they help ensure that the faithful are nourished, guided, and strengthened in their life of faith. The Sacrament is essential to the life of the Church, as it preserves apostolic continuity—the unbroken line of ministry from the Apostles to today.
In our time, the Church continues to need faithful men who are willing to listen to God’s call and serve generously in the Priesthood and Diaconate. The need for vocations is great, and the Church depends on those who are willing to respond with courage and trust in God’s plan. While the call requires sacrifice and commitment, it is also deeply rewarding—a life of purpose, service, and closeness to Christ, bringing grace and hope to countless lives.
For those beginning to explore this vocation, Holy Orders is not a decision made quickly, but a journey of prayer, reflection, and discernment. It is a response to God’s invitation to serve Him and His people in a lifelong commitment of love and service.
